Here is the examples of my work. Click on the buttons bellow to switch between them!

This is an example of game design - it's how i would like to change Resident Evil 3 Remake according to my personal vision, fixing all the flaws i see in this game. Warning! It might be better suited for people who player R3R (and maybe original RE3 as well), since they can spot all the differences and understand why i made them.

This is not a serious work, i made in in a free time out of boredom (and my love to RE series), but even this should be a good example of what i am capable at when it comes to making an interesting and meaningful game design. How do you think, if game would be done like this, would it get a better reception?

So first major difference - is no Nemesis attack in the beginning. Jill is contacted by Brad, who are saying that outbreak can't be stopped anymore and city is going to be lock down, but he managed to get the keys from the helicopter owned by Racoon Press and will attempt to escape the city with it. The problem is that news building are overrun, and he wants Jill to clear the way for him.

Jill walks out of her appartment but on the way she finds that virus already spread in her building, and someone from other appartments are turned.

From here on out Jill has the ability to save some of the survivors if she will manage to help them in time (and there will be some others who are impossible to save to show that outbreak is on the run and there are still lots of living in the city) - as a reward they might share supplies or give her directions for hidden items. By achieving some hidden goal (simillar to mechanics that unlocked Brad the zombie in re2) it's possible to even save Dario! Jill tells them to go for the press building with hope to take as many of them as possible on board of the heli.

But after reaching the Racoon Press building Jill finds no survivors there, and assumes that they either didn't made it or chose not to. She goes inside to find wounded and very scared Brad who is mumbling about monster that is coming for STARS members. Together with Brad they making their way to the roof, and on the way they hear terrifying roar, and then sound of doors and other furniture being broken on the floors beneath them, accompanied by the sound of massive footsteps. Brad knows who is coming after them and wants to hurry up, Jill thinks he is just being too scared and she wants to look for survivors to give them the last chance.

They board the heli and slowly take off, while Jill searching the streets for signs of living people and noticing people in UBCS uniforms escorting someone to nearby metro station. But in the same moment door on the roof gets kicked out and Nemesis walks out. Brad attempts to fly away, but Nemesis pulls his helicopter closer with his tentacle, tears the door out and grabs Brad, brutally murdering him while Jill falls down on the streets in piloteless heli. But before dying Brad manages to punch Nemi in the face and tear off his mask, only to be frozen by fear as soon as he sees the face of a monster - then Nemesis pierces him with a tentacle, saying "STARS" with satisfaction in voice. Apperantly, Brad's punches were the reason of why Nemmy's nose ended up being broken.

Jill climbs out of the broken chopper and screams in fear, because mutilated body of Brad falls down on the ground right next to her, and then Nemesis jumps down from the building. Jill faces first branching choice: fight or flight, attempt to avenge Brad or flee to the metro station. If she decides to fight - in the end she will be rewarded with first Nemesis crate, that otherwise would be missable (meaning she will never get the best reward from last one). In fight Nemesis is able to tear down part of the propeller and attack Jill with it, showing that creature is intelligent and can adapt to the battlefield.

In any case she reaches for gates of metro station being closed - either by being chased by Nemesis in attempt to run, or after the fight is over, just to see that he already standing back up - so he will be chasing her in both options. Carlos, attracted by sounds coming from the street opening doors for her and attempts to shoot Nemesis with the rifle, but monster still goes forward, only covering his face with his hand (showing that he is not a brainless mutant, and capable of protecting his vital points). Then Carlos throws him a grenade, but Nemesis catching it with it's tentacle. While Carlos performs a "wtf is this" facial expression, grenade explodes, throwing Nemesis back to the heli, fire from explosion lights up leaked gas and heli explodes as well, engulfing Nemesis in fire.

After that, there is no much differences with existing game for next level, except:

  • All saved survivors are in the metro station, UBSC found them and moved there. Jill can find few more of them in next locations.

  • Nemesis is now slightly burned, his clothes patrially torned out

  • After being defeated, Nemesis goes down, he kneels only betwheen the phases, but not when being fully defeated. After some time passes, he still stands up and resumes his search.

  • Nemesis mechanics works differently - he patrols the level, occasionally jumping to the roofs to appear in another place later. Jill can use objects to hide behind them. Any loud sounds can attract the monster - but it also can be used against him. And, finally, zombies infected with parasites revealing your location to him instantly (but it will still take some time for him to reach you because he is forbidden to teleport ahead of player if he were behind before). Sometimes Nemy brings rocket launcher to the fight and blows up elements of environment with it to block Jill's patch forward.

  • after completing the power station, brainsuckers can be occasionaly found among other enemies, especially in enclosed spaces

When train is powered and Jill gets back, she finds out that they cannot start it - the merchenary who had the main key gone missing, and the machinist who had another one died in the incident few days ago. Jill knows about that, and she knows that his body were delivered to the RPD morgue for investigation, so his belongins must be stored there as well. In the same moment she hears Nemesis roaring outside the metro, and Nicholai gets angry and blames her for leading it to them. Jill agrees and says that to not risk the lives of civillians she will move to the RPD to search for key there, and, hopefully - find some help to fend off the creature.

From here, Jill moves to the sewers and no changes to that level. However, i am not sure if construction side + flamethrower battle should be included, sine they are kinda boring and dumb in my opinion, but if they should - then cutscene at the start of it should be entierly reworked. Nemesis grabbing Jill by the head, but then letting her go instead of snapping her neck, and even pointing flamethrower on her without shooting? That should not be a thing, it makes player feel like Nemesis are some kind of retard and not dangerous at all. There should be no contact between him and Jill in cutsenes.

In any case, Jill reaches the police station. On your way in you can hear girl's scream and gunshots coming from the Kendo's shop direction, but the shop is closed and Kendo is not responding to Jill. Upon reaching the gateway to the garage, Jill finds dead policeman's body and picks up an acsess card from it. In the same moment she hears the sound of Nemesis landing on the ground outside, and she using card to close the gates and hiding behind the wall. Few seconds later Nemesis walks from the street, sees closed gates, and few seconds later turns around and walks away. It shows that Nemesis are still remains more or less an intelligent being, capable of planning ahead instead of breaking everything on his path.

Jill comes to the morgue and finds a key to the train there. Her next goal will be to reach STARS office and look for survivors, so she comes up to the station, only to find out that no living being walks trough those halls. When she tries to move forward, window ahead of her breaks, and Nemesis jumps in. Time slows down, and Jill faces another choice:

  • Before monster recovered from the jump, Jill catches electric cable hanging from the ceiling, and fries Nemesis with it. Nemmy will fall down and stay like that for some amount of time, also defeating him in next combat will be easier.

  • Jill hides behind the corner before she were noticed. Monster moves in her direction, but in the last second a loud sound comes from the opposite direction, and the Nemesis turns around and walks there.

From this moment Nemesis are patrolling the halls of the station, and sometimes making an ambush behind the door to punch Jill as she attempts to walk trough (player can her his breating and wait for him to go away to prevent that from happening). It is possible to add scenes where he chases and murders some random cops who are still alive. When Jill assembles a bomb to clear the path to the STARS room hallway, and approaching wall of the shower to install it, Nemesis breaking that wall from inside and attacks Jill.

Upon finally reaching STARS room and finding no survivors, Jill decides to use radio post (the one located at the corner of the room) to call for help, and suddenly gets a responce from Barry, who says that he and his friends were busy resquing survivors from the city on helicopters. Jill tells him about the train plan, but he says that military cut down all the ground connections leading to the city, and air are currently the only way out. He offers Jill to use the train to carry survivors to the clock tower (since it will be safe to land on top of it) and light it up to sent a signal to Barry's friend who should be close enough to evacuate them. Finally, when she asks him about the monster chasing her, Barry tells he to take a keycard from his table and use to to open STARS armory, where she can find a portable rocket launcher. This is a quest item, takes no place in the inventory, Jill just puts it on her back.

Now she goes all the way back to the Kendo shop where she suddenly feels like she is being stalked. She turns back and sees Nemesis watching her from the top of the building. But this time she is not running, and instead inviting him to fight. When she wins, cutscene follows: the Nemesis is disoriented from the wounds and kneels to recover, Jill pulls off the rocket launcher to finish him off, but Nemmy uses tentacle to grab her by the leg, that results in Jill falling down and losing hold of a rocket launcher. There is a qte event where player has to resist while being pulled towards the Nemesis, and then Kendo runs out of his shop and starts shooting at the Nemesis from the shotgun pont blank, with each shot pushing him to the edge of construction side. When his weapon are empty, Jill, who already recovered her launcher screams for him to back off and shoots Nemesis with the rocket, and monster falls down into the construction side.

After short conversation with Kendo, he gives Jill the key from the alley and she comes back to the train station, informing Carlos that monster is down and that they now have a new plan to evacuate citizens. Together they go to pilot's cabine and start the train.

The train are moving, when Jill and Carlos noticing the Nemesis, standing on the rails with rocket launcher, and aiming at the incoming train. They barely manage to escape the cockpit whet it gets destroyed by the explosion, but it does not stop the train - it moves forward with burning cabin. Jill hears the sound of something heavy landing on the train, and proceeds to the other side of it, where civillians are located - but it's too late, Nemesis already destroyed the roof and starts murdering everyone located inside, including every character Jill saved along the way. Some of them try to resist, but monster easily overpowers them. Jill tries to help them, but the doors are closed, so all they can do are hopelessly watch. Mikhail and Carlos trying to pull her back, saying that it is over for civillians and that they need to flee, but the doors behind them are also closed, and Nicholai laughes over Mikhail falling into the same kind of trap twice, and then Nemesis bursts the door open and grabs Mikhail, who blows up hismelf and the monster. Seeing that they almost arrived at clock tower, Jill facing the choice - pull the emergency breaks or say that they need to jump and escape train trough the window, leaving Carlos behind. Train derails, crashing into clock tower.

Depending on the choice, Jill either lands outside and swims out of the river, and then has to fight dogs on her way in, or is awaken by the Carlos who pulled her out of the train wreck, and saying to proceed with evacuation, while he will try to find Nicholai. Burning zombies starting to come out of train wreck sometimes after - sound of train crash attracted them to this location, and even more of them are gathered outside. Jill solves the puzzle to fix her trainwreck of a life the clock tower lights, sends the signal and sits there, waiting for the chopper to arrive.

When chopper arrives, Jill starts screaming and waving her hands to attract pilot's attention to her position. But soon after that she notices Nemesis landing on a roof just above her. Monster is heavily damaged by train explosion, his coat are all teared up, and some new tentacles growing up from his body, but he still carries a rocket launcher and using that to shoot down the helicopter, that proceeds to fall down directly at Nemesis, but he is not making any attempt to dodge it, meeting explosion head on - this shows that mutations of his body started to take over the intellectual part, and self-preservence instincts are disabled.

Helicopter tears down a hole in the clock tower and explodes, completly blocking up the stairs. Nemesis slowly walks from the fire, damaged, but still alive. Luckily, some chests with ammunition have falled down from the chopper before it crashed, and Jill has enough supplies to stun the monster, but in the end he still manages to get her with one of his tentacles, piercing her shouler. When he is about to execute Jill, Carlos shows up and fires the grenade launcher armed with special bullets, and hits monster's head, forcing Nemesis to release Jill, but he gets up and starts accelerating towards her. Carlos screams that he blinded the creature. Jill has branching choice:

  • Use the bell. She runs to the broken wall leading inside clock tower, and then, when Nemesis charges her, she dashes away, letting him fall inside clock tower. Then she screams for Carlos to shoot down the bell, that buries monster underneath it.

  • Lure him outside. Jill performs the same trick to make Nemesis fall into the horde of zombies that surrounding the clock tower, and they swarm his body.

Jill slowly falls down, losing countiusness while she hears distant voice of the Carlos, telling her to hold up while he makes his way towards her.

Clock tower is burning, it's no longer safe there, so Carlos carries Jill to the hospital and uses his radio to contact the doctor Bard. From their dialogue player discovers that Bard were the one who gave Carlos ani-BOW grenades to stop Nemesis, and that they also settled the agreement - if Carlos will help him get out of the city, he will give him a lot of incriminating evidence against the Umbrella. Carlos asks about Jill's infection, and Bard says that he has the antidote for it, and he is willing to share one of the samples. Next levels remain almost unchanged from the remake, except for the part where Carlos finds the documents saying that bodies of deceased and even some alive patients were moved to the old factory by the Umbrella staff, and goes there to investigate after curing Jill. But before that he finds out that Bard were murdered right before his arrival, and case with the vaccine are stolen - but, luckily, one experimental sample are still left inside the production device.

After Jill wakes up and reads note from Carlos, she moves to the Bard's office to collect evidence against Umbrella from his pc. Along the way Nemesis comes back, mutated even futher - he has no clothing left and all covered in tentacles, having increased speed and combat abilities, but his intellectual level are decreased - he attackig other creatures randomly, not catching grenades anymore, and only randomly throws some objects with his tentacles. He also cannot see far away anymore and relies mostly on sounds, that makes hiding from him easier, but also makes evading him harder since due to better hearing abilities he is attracted to almost any sound. After reaching Bard's office and interacting with his pc Jill are contected by Nicholai trough video chat, and Nicholai telling her to look under the table, where she finds bomb on a timer. She disarms the bomb because STARS officers were trained for such things, but Nicholai just laughs, saying that there are hundred more all across the hospital. Jill has to run out of the building faster than time runs out.

Jill heads to the factory trough local cemetery located right behind the hospital, and while she does not encounter gravedigger there, she has to play hide and seek with Nemesis, using gravestones as a cover if the monster gets close. There are a lot of things that can make sounds if touched, and also some enemies.

When reaching the hanging bridge, leading to the factory backyard, Jill sees that Nemesis follows right after her, and starts to charge trough the bridge. She has a choice to either use C4 that she previously disarmed in hospital to blow up the bridge, or to jump into the river.

Either way she ends up inside the factory, she attempts to power-up the facility because most of the doors are locked, but are attacked by Nemesis. Jill using acid cans to weaken the monster, and make him fall into waste pool, into the giant pile of dead bodies mixed with chemicals that Umbrella disposed there.

Later on, Jill confronts Nicholai at the control room (before that she can hear him speaking to his clients, requesting an evac chopper), but he rans away. Jill using radio to contact Barry who says that he will arrive in half hour, while also saying that government are planning to destroy the city entierly and this is her last chance to get out, but she responds that there is an opportunity to get the vaccine against the virus and that she will try to make it in time.

Jill follows Nicholai inside the factory and into underground lab, and learns how Umbrella used the factory as a cover for that lab (easy to dispose bodies, secured area, and, unlike hospital - no reason to hide from the staff). Nicholai releasing various BOW's and comments on Jill's efforts to fight them (or if she perfers to avoid them). Eventually he lures her into same giant arena-like room and unleashes Nemesis, who mutated into his dog-like form. After Carlos shows up and helps her win the fight, Nicholai escapes, but drops the keycard that unlocks all doors around. Together with Carlos they chase Nicholai back into the factory, while also trying to escape even futher mutating Nemesis who are destroying the lab behind them. Upon reaching the tower Jill contacts the Barry and tells him that they are ready for pickup, but also before that she can hear Nicholai's employers trying to contact him, saying that their chopper will not be arriving because missile that has to destroy the city is already flying. Nemesis still follows them, and they decide to split - Carlos goes after Nicholai, while Jill is trying to deal with Nemesis, opening up a new factory wing with a global acsess keycard she found earlier. First, she runs trough the big yard and removes safety locks from the back of the trucks, unloading lots of fuel barrels on the ground, and detonating them with gunshots as the Nemesis comes closer to slow him down. Monster follows her and devours anything on his way, gaining size as he eats more and more matter. Finally, she reaches the polygon with an experimental anti-BOW cannon, and using it to defeat Nemesis.

After that she reaches the landing pad only to find out that Nicholai ambushed Carlos and not holding him as a hostage, making Jill drop the weapon and push it away from the platform. Helicopter arrives, but Nemesis is still alive, and his formless body starts surrounding the platform. Nicholai laughs and wishes them to have fun, saying that his ride has arrived, but only he has paid for the ticket. When he goes to the chopper door opens up and Barry attacks him, taking away the weapon, but Nicholai manages to throw away vaccine case off the platform and laughs, enjoying this little victory. He tries to taunt Jill into killing him, but she just boards the chopper along with Carlos and leave, wishing Nicholai to have fun playing with his monster.

Camera shows devastated streets of the city, filled with zombies. Empty police station. Ruins of the hospital and clock tower. Case with broken vials of vaccine, laying at the bottom of the canyon. And Nemesis, who's formless biomass are surrounding Nicholai. City explodes.

The End.

p.s. Few final notes...

  • You may noticed that i haven't wrote any of the dialogues. I did it both to save time, and because i would keep most of the characters the same, so you can imagine what they could say. The only excepction here would be Jill, and that is what i wanted to leave separate comment about: in my version of the plot Jill won't be always "the strong and cocky" type of the character. Arkley incident devastated her, she seeing nightmares and you can even see her taking tons of pills, judging from the bottles in her appartment. In the first part of the game she will be mostly scared, still doing her duty to help people - but terrified from facing not only the undead, but also her relentless pursuer. This is why hinding is a very viable option to deal with Nemesis in first part of the game, and Jill would visually show how afraid she is while hiding from the monster. It is even possible for her to have hallucinations by seeing enemies that are not there - it will make player waste ammo or perform qte event only to realize that it was just a vision. And during the fever while being infected she will see nightmare where she kills Brad because she blames herself for his death. But slowly her fear transforms into anger, that bursts out into rage when Nemesis killing civilians on the train, and she starts to act more confident in every future encounter with the monster, and she slowly realize that she hates not the monster, but the people who sent it after her and her friends. At first, her plans were only about getting out from the city, but after waking up in the hospital she changes her mind and spends time on searching for evidence against umbrella, and then risks her life in attempt to get the vaccine, managing to overcome her fears in attempt to help others. This, unlike the original, will show a proper character growth.

  • There is no gravedigger fight. I always felt like the worm is a bit out of place in a Nemesis-themed game, and also it creates problem with the lore (if underground creatures mutated like that, they would easily survive the blast and spread the virus). So instead i made Jill play hide and seek with blind Nemesis there, but... it's still entierly possible to make a Nicholai dlc where he has to fight that worm.

  • In this version Nemesis does not have enlarged teeths because i believe they make him look silly instead of scary. Also he does not have "heart" implant, at least not in outside (it may become visible when his armored coat gets destroyed), because it will be incredibly obvious weakness and nobody would put such a thing on the weapon.
